Authors - Register Today for the 2023 Festival!

The seventh annual Black Ink: A Charleston African American Book Festival will take place from Thursday, January 12, 2023, to Saturday, January 14, 2023, with an in-person book signing on Saturday, January 14 at Trident Technical College in North Charleston (7000 Rivers Ave, Bldg 920). Because this year's festival will be presented in a hybrid, we are able to offer expanded content and workshops designed to reach a broader audience. On the virtual platform, we expect readers and authors from around the country and, indeed, around the world, to participate in the festival that exposes them to Black authors and new perspectives. For the in-person book signing, we hope to welcome hundreds of local and regional attendees interested in learning more about Black Ink Book Festival authors.

The 2023 Black Ink Book Festival registration fee for signing author is $125. With registration, signing authors will have one six-foot table with two chairs for themselves and one assistant. Authors will also be able to submit information for one book they would like to promote and a headshot to create done-for-you social media graphics for authors to share on their social media. These graphics will also appear on Black Ink Book Festival's social media.

This year, in addition to offering more authors the opportunity to connect with readers with the in-person book signing, we're offering 10 ally author spots for $150 that includes a charitable donation to continue supporting the work of the Black Ink Book Festival to amplify Black voices in literature. Ally Authors are non-Black authors who support the mission and vision of Black Ink: A Charleston African American Book Festival to amplify Black voices in literature.

Vendors (e.g. book publishers, bookstores, marketing services, etc.) are also able to register for a table for $200.

The regular registration period is Thursday, December 3, 2023, to Friday, December 23, 2022. After that date, late registrations will be accepted as space permits, and authors are not guaranteed any social media collateral or promotion from Black Ink Book Festival. All registration fees are nonrefundable.

Please feel free to share the author registration information with any other Black authors you know who you think would benefit by being a signing author. If you have any questions or concerns, you may reach out to Djuanna Brockington, Black Ink Committee Chair (info@blackinkcharleston.org), or Black Ink Programming chair Savannah Frierson (blackinkprogramming@gmail.com).
